When I was a very young, 18 year old housewife,
I always liked to have the TV on to "keep me company".
I liked to start the day with Good Morning America,
with David Hartman & Joan Lunden.
My favorite part was how he would close it,
"Make it a really good day".
That just spoke to something inside me. I KNEW that everyday,
we have a part to play in what sort of life we have.
Looking back, I smile to think that God was able to speak to me,
and teach me through an ordinary TV show!
Now, as a person abiding in Jesus, or at least striving to,
(sometimes that feels a bit like a salmon swimming upstream!),
I realize what a biblical concept that is.
"This is the day which the LORD hath made;
we will rejoice and be glad in it."
Psalm 118:24
&
"Enter into his gates with thanksgiving,
and into his courts with praise:
be thankful unto him, and bless his name."
Psalm 100:4
I don't know anything substanial about Mr Hartman,
other than when he left the show, he was missed.
He had an enthusiasm that was contagious, inspirational even.
I don't think that is something a person can fake.
Since he was a daily inspiration to me, at a very formative and vulnerable time in my life, I thought I would include some info from a New York Times bio on him.
"Mr. Hartman says he was endowed with his creative spirit and thirst for knowledge by his parents, particularly his father, Cy, a former minister, who told him: "You've got a gift of a thousand minutes waiting for you today. Don't waste one of them." He hasn't wasted many. Growing up in Rhode Isand, Mr. Hartman played six musical instruments, starred in baseball and studied opera. He went on to gain a degree in economics at Duke. An expression of his enthusiasm became Mr. Hartman's sign-off on "Good Morning America." Each morning, he would say to his viewers, "Make it a really good day!" "
This is my Memory Verse Monday (a day late!).
I chose these verses because this year I am focusing on a few things.
One is to seek to be consistent in giving thanks and praise (living a life of gratitude)
and two is that I continue to seek to abide in Him.
If I am going to truly abide in Him,
then I ENTER into His presence through praise and thanksgiving!
Memory Verse Monday comes from Karen at Karen's Ramblings.
Be sure and check her out, or sign up to participate if you like!
The more the merrier!
Here is a great song called "Happy" by Ayiesha Woods, I really dig her music.
Enjoy!

Studying and studying some more for Isaiah. I'll get caught up soon!
Yes we all have the same minutes in our day - are we going to choose thankfulness and praise? My son sings "This is the Day" at School and it reminds me of first becoming a Christian in 1982 aged 14, that song was very popular then. When I picked my son up from School yesterday one of the parents was playing Christian praise music from his car, for a second I could just imagine every household, every car owner, IPOD wearer listening to praise and worship music...can you imagine the revolution? The change in the atmosphere? Wow. Thanks for your sweet comments to my initiative post. I have kept them and treasure them. Oh and getting back to this post - what a wise 18 year old housewife you sounded! I was a totally unwise, naive 18 year old, fresh out of College and headed for a collision course then..thanks be to God, he re-routed me.
I have that verse on my clock in the kitchen! Love it! Always love your up beat tone and positive outlook! Great way to look at each day!
Thanks for this.
Sharon, you are doing a great thing! Take your time! We will still be here! Thanks for popping over! I always love to hear from you!
Karen, I LOVE the way you think! What a wonderful thing it will be when we all DO get to praise & worship, with 1 heart & 1 accord! If the world was all children we probably could swing it now....but, I guess that's why He says to approach Him like a child! We can learn much from them! :) So glad to hear the comment hit home! I meant it thru & thru! :)
re: a wise housewife at 18, well, maybe in that 1 area by the grace of God! But, Phew! I SO wasn't in MANY other areas! Tee-hee!
Thanks, Leslie! It's on my calendar this week!
Denise! Hi! How are your friends? I will have to pop over & see!
Hope everyone's week is coming along well! If not, tell the devil he's a loser! & God made you to stomp his head! Then do a happy dance! ;)
xoxo,
maria
